The Beginning
Focused on solving problems faced by the elderly, we initially visited  Senior Care Centres, such as SESCO Senior Home and Golden Care Centre, to learn more about the challenges faced by the elderly from themselves and their caretakers. We discovered a wide range of issues, from mobility to health, affecting the elderly and its consequent effects on caretakers. However, two issues stood out against the rest. The need for independence and empowerment was emphasized by both the elderly and their caretakers. Thus began our journey to address that need.
Post-Interview
Based on our findings, we wanted to empower the elderly and assimilate them with the rest of the society. Thus we looked at current trends for inspiration. Segways, Smartphones, Notebooks and lastly Fitbit. Fitbit is what caught our attention because after some initial research, we realised the lack of a suitable Fitbit, specifically for the elderly despite its extensive potential application in monitoring their health. It also came as a surprise because of the huge market available in Singapore for such application.
Problems of Fitbits
Based on our secondary research, here are the potential problems of current Fitbits that make it unsuitable for use by the elderly:
Most Fitbits are not designed with the elderly in mind
Too complicated user experience
Fairly expensive compared to analogue watch
Markets itself to appeal mainly to millennials
Elderly are not fitness junkies like millennials

Moving on, we wanted to validate our findings and thus we spoke with caretakers and elderly to understand the elderly's need for empowerment and independence. Click below to find out what they have to say!
